Meta's $1,299 VR Glasses Put 75 Hand-Tracked Games in a 100-Gram Design

Editorial update (27 September 2026): This page was first published on 14 July as a Meta Connect preview. After Meta's 23 September announcement, it was substantially rewritten as the product report below. The July date above is the original page date; these product details were announced in September.

Meta has announced VR Glasses, a headset weighing about 100 grams that it says will go on sale in spring 2027 for US$1,299.99. Meta has announced neither a Nigerian price nor a Nigerian launch date.

The device has two parts. The glasses carry the display and sensors; an optically tethered pocket unit holds the processor, storage and battery. Meta lists a 5K micro-OLED display at 37 pixels per degree, a Snapdragon Reality Elite processor and up to three hours of continuous high-resolution media playback. These are company specifications, not independent performance tests.

For games, Meta says more than 75 titles will support hand-gesture play at launch without controllers. It also promises access to hundreds more through Xbox Cloud Gaming. The cloud catalogue and streaming quality will depend on service availability and the user's connection. Meta's announcement does not establish that every named service will be offered to Nigerian accounts.

What a Nigerian buyer should check

The US price does not include any local import costs, taxes, delivery or support arrangements. Before budgeting for a purchase, check Meta's official country availability, warranty coverage, compatible services and the final store price for your account region. For cloud games, test the connection and data costs you would actually use. Do not pay a third-party seller on the assumption that a spring 2027 US launch guarantees local stock or support.
