Three Live Funding Routes for Nigerian Game Studios—One Closes August 9
Nigerian game studios looking for capital have three live routes worth checking now. They are not interchangeable: one is an equity-free grant, one is revenue-share project funding, and one is an incubation pathway. Here is what Nigerian teams need to know.
- Supercell Developer Grants — $20,000 to $200,000
Supercell is offering non-dilutive grants to legally registered game studios whose primary operations and majority of staff are based in Africa. The studio keeps its equity and intellectual property. Funding can cover salaries, contractors, art, engineering, audio, QA, tools, marketing and live operations.
The official deadline is Sunday, 9 August at 23:59 UTC. In Nigeria, that is 12:59am WAT on Monday, 10 August, but studios should submit well before Sunday night. Supercell expects to select about three to five studios. Prepare a pitch deck, gameplay video, previous-game links and a high-level budget; a playable build is optional. Individual developers and unregistered teams are not eligible.

- CHECKMATE 2.0 — up to $50,000 on revenue share
Bright Gambit’s CHECKMATE 2.0 is for solo developers and small teams seeking finishing funds or marketing support for games targeting launch by the end of Q2 2027. The official cap is $50,000 per approved project.
This is not a grant. Bright Gambit says support uses a revenue-share model while developers retain creative and decision-making control. Applicants need a pitch deck and a playable demo or vertical slice. Teams from emerging regions and underrepresented backgrounds are specifically encouraged. Submissions close on 15 September at 23:59; the page does not state a timezone, so do not leave it until the final hour.

- UNDP timbuktoo CreativeTech Launchpad — rolling applications
UNDP’s pan-African CreativeTech programme includes gaming startups. Eligible teams should be based in Africa or serve African markets, have a prototype or MVP, a committed founding team and a scalable technology-enabled creative business.
The offer is structured incubation, mentorship, investor-readiness support, demo-day access and potential pathways to later investment. It is not a guaranteed cash grant. Applications are rolling through quarterly cohorts, with the first cohort beginning in September 2026.
Apply through the official UNDP announcement: https://www.undp.org/south-africa/press-releases/undp-launches-call-applications-creativetech-startups-join-timbuktoo-launchpad
NairaGame’s advice: match the route to your stage. Registered studios with a strong team and funding plan should prioritise Supercell now. Solo developers or small teams with a playable build can assess CHECKMATE’s revenue-share terms. Early CreativeTech startups needing structure and investor access should consider timbuktoo. Do not rely on old opportunity roundups: confirm status and terms on the official page before submitting.
