GTA 6 gets first PC tease, as online mode set for 2027 launch
Grand Theft Auto VI is getting closer to its November release, but Rockstar Games is still keeping two major pieces of information under wraps: the PC version and the future of GTA Online.
That may have changed slightly this week.
While Rockstar has officially confirmed that GTA 6 will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026, the company has yet to announce a PC version. However, recent comments from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick have provided what could be the clearest indication yet that a PC release is part of the long-term plan.
At the same time, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy has reportedly pointed to 2027 for GTA 6's multiplayer launch, potentially giving fans their first indication of when Rockstar could introduce the next generation of GTA Online.
GTA 6 Finally Gets a PC Tease
PC players have been waiting patiently for Rockstar to acknowledge GTA 6 on Windows.
The official Rockstar website currently lists only PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as platforms for GTA 6. There is still no announced PC release date or official PC version listed by Rockstar.
However, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick recently discussed the importance of PC gaming to the company's future.
His comments have been interpreted as a strong indication that Rockstar's biggest upcoming games will eventually reach PC, although he did not announce a GTA 6 PC release date.
That distinction is important.
For now, PC support remains unannounced rather than officially confirmed by Rockstar.
A 2027 PC Release Is Being Discussed
Rockstar has a history of bringing its major games to PC after their console launches.
GTA V arrived on consoles in 2013 before reaching PC in 2015, while Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on consoles in 2018 before arriving on PC roughly a year later.
Based on those previous releases, some analysts expect GTA 6's PC version to arrive sometime after the console launch.
PC Gamer currently estimates that the PC version is unlikely to arrive before November 2027, although this is an expectation rather than an official Rockstar announcement.
PCWorld similarly estimates that a PC release could fall somewhere between late 2027 and late 2028 based on Rockstar's previous release patterns.
So while 2027 is increasingly being discussed, PC players should not treat it as a confirmed launch year yet.
GTA 6 Online Could Arrive in 2027
The multiplayer side of GTA 6 is generating even more speculation.
In a recent interview reported by PC Gamer, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said that GTA 6's multiplayer component is expected to launch in 2027.
Clancy reportedly discussed Twitch's relationship with Rockstar and preparations for the enormous amount of GTA-related content expected from creators. He suggested that the game's initial release would generate major activity, followed by an even larger surge when multiplayer arrives the following year.
However, there is an important caveat: Rockstar itself has not officially announced a GTA 6 Online release date.
That means the 2027 timeline currently comes from Twitch's CEO rather than Rockstar's own announcement.
Rockstar Is Launching the Single-Player Game First
Rockstar's current official information describes GTA 6 as a single-player experience launching on November 19, 2026.
The game will initially be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has already opened pre-orders and confirmed the November launch date.
The company has not yet revealed exactly how the eventual multiplayer component will work.
Naturally, fans expect it to become the successor to GTA Online, but Rockstar has not officially provided the final name, structure or launch details.
What Could GTA 6 Online Look Like?
Rockstar has an enormous foundation to build on.
GTA Online has remained active for years, receiving regular updates, new vehicles, missions, businesses and other content.
A successor could potentially introduce:
- A much larger online world
- More detailed interiors
- Expanded character customization
- New businesses and criminal operations
- More advanced vehicles
- Improved multiplayer activities
- Larger-scale heists
- More sophisticated NPC interactions
- New social and role-playing systems
However, these are expectations and possibilities, not confirmed GTA 6 Online features.
Rockstar has yet to provide a full breakdown of its multiplayer plans.
GTA 6's November Launch Is Getting Closer
Rockstar is already increasing its promotional activity ahead of the November release.
The company recently announced Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, an official soundtrack project featuring 34 new tracks and launching alongside the game on November 19. The first six singles have already been released.
