Google Play’s New Level Up Rules Change How Nigerian Studios Ship Games
Google has published revised Level Up requirements that will affect Nigerian studios seeking programme benefits for Android games.
From 30 September 2026, qualifying games released on comparable non-Android platforms must also launch across supported Android form factors at the same time. The current list includes phones, tablets, Google Play Games on PC, Android XR, Android TV and Android Auto. Missing that window can delay programme eligibility for six months, although Google provides technical exemptions and launch grace periods.
The guidelines also require cloud saving for games with persistent player progress, large-screen support, crash and ANR thresholds, and a 60fps default target on reference devices.
For Nigerian developers, the practical work is to review platform plans, performance telemetry, cloud-save design and large-screen layouts before the September rule takes effect.
